Macmillan Coastal Garden Trail – 28th/29th July 2018

Take part in the 7th Coastal Garden Trail to raise money for Macmillan’s Horizon Centre.

Driftwood Fundraising Group is holding the 2018 trail on the weekend of 28 and 29 July. Popular gardener, Jim Buttress, will open the trail at 11am at Driftwood in Seaford on the 28 July. Click on the image to find out more on the important event taking place on our Sussex doorstep.

Now, these are all going to be fantastic and C-Side wouldn’t want to promote any particular garden – but you might want to have a look at Annelise’s poster.

A beginner course consists of four sessions, each one and a half hours long. Both the course and the specialist poles are provided free of charge to self-help/support group members living with cancer.

How to register interest?
Limited places are now available for people living with cancer.

It is important that you are ready to take up this activity before starting a course. Once you have registered interest, you will be asked to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and, if necessary, to consult the appropriate healthcare professional for their approval before being offered a place.

CARERS WEEK
Carers Week is taking place from Monday 12th June and Macmillan is taking the opportunity to raise awareness of the support and information that is available to carers.

As part of this we are keen to share the experience of carers to help others who may not be aware of support available or indeed identify as carers themselves. If you are caring for somebody affected by cancer and interested in sharing your experience to help raise awareness, we would love to hear from you.

If you are interested, please do contact Charlotte Littlejones, Senior Communications Lead for the South East on clittlejones@macmillan.org.uk
Mobile: 07801 307031.

With kind regards

collage1C-Side was delighted to be invited to attend the 28th November meeting of the Rotary Club of Seaford Martello. Ernie Milner & Denise Savage described the work we do, the way we do it and the results we hope to achieve. At the end of the discussion the club President Jackie Arkwell presented C-Side with a cheque for £150 for the purchase of design software to assist C-Side’s publicity and information programme. Denise & Ernie would like to thank Jackie, the Club secretary Dave Winsor and indeed all the members present for their warm welcome and kind attentiveness.

Stop Press ….. Moving On Living Well – 2016!

Building on the success of the Moving On Living Well event in July last year, plans are afoot to repeat the exercise. Remember that there are 300 new bowel & anal cancer patients who start their treatment each year, it’s important that all patients be able to benefit from what has proven to be a rich and varied source of information and advice. Feedback from last year’s attendees lead us to believe that for many the whole day event was a little on the long side and also that travel distance was, for some, an issue. So rather than have a single all-day event it has been decided to host shorter, more intimate events, repeated at the following three locations and times:-

a) 21st April at the Audrey Emerton Building, from 9.00 to 12.00
b) 10th May at the Euan Keat Education Centre, Princess Royal Hospital, from 9.00 to 12.30
c) 5th July at the new Macmillan Horizon Centre from 1.30 to 4.30 in the afternoon.

This will give delegates greater choices on location and the time of day they would like to attend. We shall be covering the same major topics as last year and are very fortunate that the same speakers, or their close colleagues, have agreed to present their subjects.
Another feature of last year’s event that met with widespread approval was the availability of C-Side patients and carers who provided the sort of help and advice that could only come from those who “have been there”. We are again calling for volunteers from C-Side to step forward to take on these vital ambassadorial roles. Since one of the venues will be the brand-new Macmillan Horizon Centre volunteers will need to be registered with them, we are currently looking at how this will be expedited.

So, please send an email if you would like to volunteer and help make Moving On Living Well – 2016 a great success.
